Entering my 7th season covering high school football in NWGA.

Over the next several week’s we will highlight 3 players from each of the 54 teams we follow at NwGaFootball.

Team #30: Lumpkin County Indians

Head Coach Heath Webb begins his 3rd season with the Indians after leading them to their most successful season in the 63 year history of the program last Fall. They finished 12-1 winning their 1st ever Region Title and advancing to the State Quarter Finals for the 1st time.

3 Players to Know in ’24:

’25 QB Cal Faulkner

The 6’3 180 dual threat QB is one of the most under recruited prospects in the State. He passed for 1700+ yards and rushed for a little over 900 yards last season and scored 37 total TDs for the Indians. He was a force on the defensive side of the ball also, intercepting 2 passes. Preseason NwGaFootball POY Watchlist.

’26 WR/RB Nolan Matthews

The 5’8 WR/RB is built like a fire hydrant and has elite speed. Was clocked at close to 20 mph last season on a 70 yard TD catch. Was second on the team in receptions last season with 33 and will be WR1 this Fall for the Indians. He had 7 TD catches last season, averaging a TD every 4.7 receptions. Could easily see him catching balls out of the backfield this year as a RB.

’25 LB Gerald Walker

Walker is the returning leading tackler for the Indians on a squad that will lose a lot of defensive production to graduation. The 5’10 LB had 62 TT in 2023 with 4 sacks and intercepted a pass that he returned for 25 yards. Physical, aggressive tackler with good football IQ.
